Fort Erie Minor Ball Sees Strong Growth Ahead of Summer Season

FEO, May 14, 2026, Volume 7, Issue 18

Greater Fort Erie Minor Ball is preparing for another busy summer at the diamonds, with registration numbers climbing significantly as more local families return to baseball and softball programs.

The organization, which serves players ages 5 to 18, has seen a 26 percent increase in registrations this season. According to organizers, 364 players have signed up this year, compared with 290 last season, an increase of 74 participants.

League representatives say the growth reflects renewed community interest in youth sports and the organization’s focus on creating a fun, inclusive, and development-centred environment for young athletes.

Some of the biggest increases have come in the Tee Ball, 7U, 9U, and softball divisions, which organizers view as an encouraging sign for the sport’s future in Fort Erie.

While many divisions are now full, registration remains open for players interested in joining the 11U and 13U teams.

One of the most significant changes this season is the introduction of an interlock schedule in the Niagara Region for the 11U and 13U age groups. Previously, players in these divisions competed in a house league format that included a broader age range.

Organizers said the change was made to better support player development and enjoyment by enabling athletes to compete within their own age category.

“We want our kids to develop and have fun, and by playing with players your own age, greatly assists us in achieving our goals,” the organization stated.

Fort Erie Minor Ball continues to emphasize skill development on and off the field. Players are introduced to fundamentals such as hitting, pitching, and fielding, while also learning teamwork, sportsmanship, and discipline.

Opening Day celebrations are scheduled for Friday, June 12, at Oakes Park and will feature games for the organization’s 9U and 10U rep teams. Families can also expect community activities and food trucks as part of the festivities.

Like many community sports organizations, Fort Erie Minor Ball faces ongoing challenges, including rising costs, busy family schedules, competition from non-sport activities, and the need to encourage children to stay physically active. However, organizers believe that affordability and a strong focus on fun continue to make the program accessible to local families.

The organization also relies heavily on volunteers and community support to run each season successfully.

Approximately 40 to 50 volunteers, including coaches, board members, and bingo volunteers, help run the program year-round.

“Quite simply, we could not do it without them,” organizers said.

The league continues to seek additional volunteers, coaches, and sponsors. Organizers say community support remains essential to keeping baseball and softball affordable and accessible for Fort Erie families.

The league is still looking for players to join the 11U and 13U teams. Please visit forterieminorball.com to sign up or for any questions.
